Koh Samui Supermarket Guide, Samui Island, Thailand: Big C, Tesco-Lotus and Makro

Koh Samui offers several modern supermarkets with both Tesco-Lotus and Big C Supercenters and the Makro Cash and Carry store all located in Bophut, on the island’s popular northeast area. There are two other, smaller Tesco-Lotus supermarkets on Koh Samui, located in both Lamai and Nathon.

The Tesco-Lotus Supercenter is located on the main Koh Samui ring road near Thai International Hospital and offers a large supermarket, cinema, ten-pin bowling, a food court, children’s play area and several shops, restaurants, fast-food outlets and cafes. The supermarket stocks a wide range of food including a fresh bakery section, fresh fruit and vegetables and imported goods with electrical goods and appliances on offer along with a clothes and shoe section. Towards the rear of the store is the food court where you can browse the large selection of both Thai and international dishes on offer. The food court operates with a cash card scheme, so make sure you buy a cash card in the kiosk before ordering your food. Adjacent to the food court is the children’s play area which consists of a good selection of arcade machines and games with a children’s play room, which will keep the kids occupied in return for a small fee. Behind this area you will find the cinema, which shows western movies with English soundtracks, and the ten-pin bowling lanes. Big C Superstore is located about 1km north of the Tesco-Lotus supermarket, just next to Bandon Hospital. Like Tesco-Lotus, Big C offers a large supermarket, food court, children’s play area and a large choice of shops, restaurants, fast-food outlets and cafes. Big C supermarket also has a fresh bakery section, electrical appliance outlet and clothes and shoe sections. Makro Cash and Carry is situated right between Tesco-Lotus and Big C and is the place to stock-up on frozen supplies including sausages and bacon for the perfect cooked breakfast. You don’t need a member’s card to shop here and a quick tip when shopping in Makro is to remember is to bring a bag, as Makro do not supply their own plastic carrier bags.
