Your Goal Weight Before Liposuction

Your Goal Weight before Liposuction

Every cosmetic surgeon will tell you that liposuction is not an alternative to healthy weight loss. If your objective is to lose weight, then your goal weight should be reached at least a few months prior to your liposuction procedure at my Tampa practice. Although lipo is much less complicated than a lot of other cosmetic procedures, there are still several ways you can prepare in order to ensure optimum results.

Before Your Procedure

While there are no hard and fast rules for an ideal objective weight prior to liposuction, most cosmetic surgeons will agree that patients shouldn t be more than about 10 pounds overweight. In fact, some surgeons will suggest that the patient only come in if they re happy with their current weight. Again, this is because lipo is not really a weight loss procedure, although a few pounds may be lost as a result of fat cell removal.

Before you come in for your procedure, you should be at a steady weight, and should have maintained that weight for several months. Carrying a lot of excess pounds around isn t good for your health, but a sudden crash diet isn t much better, especially right before a surgical procedure. Eating right and maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise means your body will be in great physical shape prior to undergoing lipo. This makes the targeted areas for treatment much easier to hone in on, plus ensures that your overall body health is in a place to promote faster healing.

Healthy Weight Loss

Before considering liposuction, most of my Tampa patients have been eating healthy and exercising regularly for quite some time. The healthiest way of losing weight is to make small, gradual changes to your diet and incorporate healthier foods like vegetables and whole grains, all the while easing your body into a more active physical routine. Going on a crash diet instead can damage your system in multiple ways.

When large amounts of weight are lost too rapidly, the skin is not able to keep up. As a result, a crash diet might give you the target weight you were after, yet leave you with unattractive folds of hanging skin. The only way to resolve these is through a surgical procedure; neither diet and exercise nor lipo will be able to tighten loose, sagging skin.

Beyond the Pounds

After you re able to maintain a steady weight that you re happy with, there may still be one or two problem areas that linger. That s where liposuction comes in. If you still battle \’love handles\’ or a \’muffin top\’ despite having reached your target weight and maintaining an effective exercise routine, liposuction is able to sculpt those fatty areas away.

Achieving your ideal body is really a multi-step process with goals that lie beyond the pounds. The key is to lose any excess pounds through gradual lifestyle changes. Next, after reaching and maintaining a steady weight along with your newly active routine, address any lingering problem areas. Coming in for a liposuction treatment provides the final polish for all your hard weight loss work.
